This compact, reinforced pack contains an assortment of preserved provisions designed to sustain soldiers during their travels through planets and space. Within its durable kevlar exterior are numerous small tins and pouches filled with dehydrated fruits, vegetables, salted meats, and hardened bread—all carefully selected for their longevity and nutritional value. Each component is lightweight and shelf-stable, making these rations ideal for long journeys when fresh food is unavailable. Despite their reliability and balanced nutrition, seasoned travelers often grimace at the bland, monotonous taste and grainy texture, reserving these provisions primarily for desperate circumstances when no other food can be procured. The rations are engineered to provide sufficient sustenance to keep an adventurer functioning, though they offer little comfort or pleasure to the palate. Many soldiers and wanderers stow a pack away in their supplies as a failsafe against starvation, but rarely consume them willingly when alternatives exist. A single pack provides adequate nutrition for one person for approximately three meals a day for one week of travel. The rations were first created about 50 years ago by Section M, a branch of the Earth Defense Force.
