The Maze stands as one of the most notorious penal institutions across the realm, a sprawling labyrinth of gnarled vegetation and twisted pathways that stretches across countless leagues of cursed wilderness. Originally constructed centuries ago as a testing ground for warriors and a dumping ground for society's most dangerous criminals, it has evolved into a brutal arena where prisoners of every race and class face simultaneous trials of combat and survival. The dense, thorny vegetation forms natural walls that tower beyond sight, their dark canopy blocking sunlight and creating an atmosphere of perpetual gloom punctuated by the sounds of distant struggle and animal calls. Scattered throughout the Maze are crumbling stone fortifications and abandoned watchtowers from its besieged state, now serving as temporary shelters and vantage points for those desperate enough to claim them. Prisoners must navigate countless mechanical traps, deadfalls, and concealed passages while contending with packs of dire wolves, territorial tigers, massive bears, and other apex predators that have made the Maze their hunting ground. Supply caches containing food, weapons, and armor are deliberately hidden throughout the labyrinth, creating focal points of conflict between combatants who recognize their value. The Maze's current besieged condition has left it partially destabilized—some sections have collapsed, walls have crumbled, and the creatures within have grown more aggressive and unpredictable.
