The Crypt Of The Thirteen

Created by Mystical11k

Deep beneath the Twilight Belt, where the landscape transitions from ashen grey to absolute black, there exists an ancient mausoleum whose origins predate even the Eclipse itself. The Crypt of the Thirteen was constructed by the Velati civilization as a vault rather than a burial chamber, specifically designed to contain the thirteen Plasmasols who served alongside Aethon during the catastrophic Sunset Ritual. When that ritual failed and the Dark Veil fractured open, these thirteen were the first to fall victim to its terrible hunger, their physical forms dissolving into pure shadow. However, their corrupted Inner Sparks—now known as Void-Sparks—could not be destroyed and remain imprisoned within crystal sarcophagi that line the crypt's radial chamber. Thirteen obsidian pillars stand in perfect symmetry around the space, each one housing a floating orb of black-violet luminescence that pulses with an unsettling rhythm. The imprisoned Void-Sparks are not truly dead but exist in a state of eternal dreaming, their whispered voices constantly emanating through the chamber, tempting intruders with promises of power, forbidden knowledge, or swift oblivion. The Cinder-Crystals that naturally form within this cursed location possess extraordinary potency, having absorbed stolen light from countless ages, making them the most powerful yet dangerously corrupted crystals known to exist. Grave-robbers and scholars alike speak in hushed tones of a terrible prophecy: should all thirteen Void-Sparks ever be reunited, they could either forge a permanent gateway into the Dark Veil itself or unleash something far more sinister than the Silents themselves.

Landmarks

The Resonance Chamber

A smaller radial alcove branching from the main crypt, where the whispers of the thirteen Void-Sparks converge into a deafening chorus. The walls here are lined with fractured mirrors of black glass that reflect the void-light in nauseating, non-Euclidean angles. At the chamber's center stands a single obsidian pedestal bearing deep grooves—as if something was once held here and violently wrenched away. Adventurers who enter report that their own thoughts become audible, their doubts and fears echoing back at them in voices that sound almost familiar. The Cinder-Crystals here are particularly dense and unstable, occasionally erupting in brief, violent surges of stolen light that leave temporal scars in the air itself.

The Void-Spark Convergence Altar

At the heart of the radial chamber stands a raised dais of fused obsidian and corrupted crystal, its surface etched with thirteen converging grooves that channel toward a central depression. This is where the Void-Sparks naturally gravitate when removed from their sarcophagi—a focal point of immense dark power. The altar pulses in synchronization with all thirteen orbs, and adventurers who approach it report feeling the weight of countless whispered voices coalescing into a single, overwhelming presence. Ancient Velati runes cover the dais, some still glowing faintly with residual power. Cinder-Crystals cluster densely around the base, their stolen light warping and bending unnaturally. Local legends suggest that standing upon the altar while holding even one Void-Spark grants visions of the Sunset Ritual's final moments—but at a terrible cost to one's sanity.
