Biography

Thane Galram Highhill inherited the leadership of Eminence not through ambition but through tragedy—his father's collapse in the deep mines claimed by a mysterious sickness that no healer could name, leaving the young dwarf to navigate treacherous political waters while barely old enough to grow a proper beard. Watching his father's isolationist peers slowly strangle their own prosperity through fear and xenophobia, Galram made a radical choice: he opened Eminence's gates to merchants, craftspeople, and adventurers of every race, transforming his struggling undercity into a thriving hub of commerce and innovation within a single generation. His bold gamble proved vindicated when the treasury swelled beyond imagining, yet this success became a dagger pointed at his own heart—for every gold coin he earned became evidence to his enemies that he had betrayed the ancient dwarven way, that his progressive vision threatened the very bedrock of their civilization. Thane Dolgrin Blackstone and his Mountain Dwarf faction seized upon this prosperity as proof of corruption, twisting Galram's achievements into accusations of cultural dilution and weakness, transforming the Assembly into a roiling pit of accusations and barely-suppressed violence. Now Galram finds himself caught between two impossible choices: surrender his convictions and watch his people suffocate under the weight of tradition, or stand firm and risk tearing the kingdom asunder in a war that could reshape the entire continent's balance of power.
