The pine accepted her sacrifice, but not in the way she expected: it transformed her, grafting the primal power of the forest's eldest guardian—the great bear spirit that had protected these woods since before memory—into her very being. For three days and nights she lay at the tree's roots, caught between forms, until she emerged reborn: half woman, half beast, wholly devoted to the pine's protection. The transformation bound her consciousness to the forest's pulse, allowing her to sense every wound dealt to its flesh and every creature that walks beneath its canopy. Now she moves through the wilderness as both predator and protector, a living covenant between the wild world and those rare souls pure enough to deserve its mercy. Some say the Whispering Pine whispers still—not to the wind, but through Bora herself, speaking truths that only the lost and the worthy can hear.
