Carcass

Created by dark11k

Carcass emerged in the void approximately three centuries ago, when a fragment of the Red Nexus—an ancient and incomprehensibly powerful artifact—became embedded within the derelict remains of a Precursor megastructure. What began as a catastrophic collision transformed into something far more sinister: a hybrid entity that defies conventional classification as either station or organism. The original metallic framework of the station has been progressively consumed and rebuilt by self-replicating synthetic flesh that continuously adapts, mutates, and expands in response to the Red Nexus shard's pulsating influence. Luminous crimson veins of exotic energy course through bone-white corridors, casting an eerie glow across vast cathedral-like chambers where pilgrims and the desperate gather to witness phenomena they interpret as divine revelation. At the station's heart lies the Choir Chamber, a horrifying nexus where hundreds of psychically-sensitive individuals have been surgically and mystically fused into a singular, agonized consciousness that interprets the incomprehensible transmissions emanating from the Red Nexus. The environment perpetually reeks of incense, biological fluids, and ionized air, creating an atmosphere that induces altered states in visitors. Dozens of smaller zero-gravity temples orbit the main mass, tethered by living bridges of pulsating organic tissue that sway and writhe as if possessed by their own volition. Carcass represents not mere construction but rather a form of birth—a living monument to forces far beyond mortal comprehension, continuously evolving toward an unknowable purpose.

Landmarks

The Ossuary Galleries

A vast, cathedral-like chamber where the skeletal remains of countless Precursor vessels have been incorporated into the station's growing structure. Massive ribcage-like frameworks arch overhead, their bone-white surfaces etched with bioluminescent runes that pulse in rhythm with the Red Nexus's heartbeat. Between these architectural bones hang suspended pods of translucent synthetic flesh, each containing preserved specimens—some humanoid, some utterly alien—suspended in crimson fluid that drips slowly downward like a grotesque rain. The floor is a labyrinth of interconnected bone fragments fused together with strands of pulsating tissue, creating a treacherous path. Whispered voices emanate from within the walls themselves, as if the Precursor ships are still trying to communicate. Adventurers who linger too long report feeling watched, and some claim the specimens' eyes follow movement across the chamber. At the gallery's far end, a massive archway of fused vertebrae leads deeper into the station's core, sealed by a membrane of living tissue that contracts and expands like a breathing mouth.

The Umbilical Nexus

A massive junction point where seven pulsating tissue-bridges converge, their surfaces slick with bioluminescent fluid that shifts between crimson and sickly violet. At the center, a cathedral-like chamber has formed naturally within the organic architecture, its walls lined with what appears to be calcified ribcages of unknown origin, each one resonating with a different frequency of the Red Signal. The floor is a translucent membrane through which adventurers can see the churning depths below—a writhing mass of synthetic flesh and neural tissue constantly reorganizing itself. Strange growths resembling both prayer bells and sensory organs hang from the vaulted ceiling, chiming discordantly whenever the station's pulse quickens. The air here is particularly thick with competing whispers, as if multiple versions of the same prayer are being spoken simultaneously in languages that predate human speech. Adventurers report feeling watched from within the walls themselves, and prolonged exposure causes vivid hallucinations of impossible geometries and evolutionary futures.
