The Mourning Maiden

The Mourning Maiden's tale is one of tragic love, dark magic, and the eternal cycle of life and death. Born from the ashes of a forbidden romance, she is the embodiment of sorrow and the guardian of the secret grave where her beloved was laid to rest. One night she discovered a single black rose growing from his grave, through which she believed she could feel him. Through the whispers of the raven, her new found companion, she learned the arcane arts. She weaved a tear soaked garden of enchanted flora to protect her lover's final resting place in a land that had otherwise been barren. She spent her days singing other spirits to their rest but never found a way to restore her lover. As her power grew, so did the fear of the nearby villagers, who sought to destroy the supernatural force they could not comprehend. In a desperate act of defiance, the Maiden called for protection and the garden born of her magic turned ravenous attacking it's invaders. When she still could not save the black rose, she merged her very essence with the it, becoming a dark goddess who would forever roam the barren valley, her haunting cries echoing through the night as she continues her eternal vigil over the grave of her lost love.

Raven's Call

The Mourning Maiden summons a raven that can distract an enemy. Choose one creature within 60 feet; that creature must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or have disadvantage on its next attack roll. This ability can be used three times per long rest.

Blood Magic

The Mourning Maiden can cast a spell that requires her to bleed. As a bonus action, she can take 1d4 necrotic damage to empower her next spell, adding an additional 2d6 necrotic damage to its effects.

Garden's Wrath

The Mourning Maiden can animate the plants in her garden to attack. Choose up to three plants within 30 feet; they make melee attacks against creatures within range, dealing 2d8 piercing damage on a hit. This ability can be used once per short rest.

Black Rose's Sacrifice

As an action, the Mourning Maiden can sacrifice her connection to the black rose to heal herself for 3d10 hit points. This ability can only be used once per long rest.

Merge with the Rose

As a final act, the Mourning Maiden can merge with the black rose, becoming a dark goddess. This transformation grants her immunity to all damage for 1 minute and allows her to cast spells without expending spell slots. This ability can be used once per long rest.

Dark Resilience

The Mourning Maiden has advantage on saving throws against being frightened or charmed.

Eternal Vigil

The Mourning Maiden can sense the presence of any creature within 60 feet that has died within the last 24 hours.
