Character
The Yellow Man
Once a brilliant but bitter artificer named Aldric Vex, The Yellow Man was driven mad after his own apprentices rejected his life's work—a set of magical balloons designed to grant wishes. Consumed by resentment over their betrayal and his shattered dreams, Aldric performed a forbidden ritual that transformed him into something neither fully human nor entirely otherworldly, binding his fractured psyche to the very artifacts he'd created. Now trapped in an endless cycle of compulsion, he wanders the world in his garish yellow raiment, driven by an insatiable need to test the moral fiber of those he encounters through his cruel game of impossible choices. Each refusal to participate fills him with a twisted satisfaction, as if he's searching for proof that kindness and restraint still exist in a world that rejected him. The single path to mercy—a simple, gracious decline—represents the very politeness and consideration he never received, and granting the harmless reward to those who choose it is his only remaining connection to the compassionate man he once was. The Yellow Man exists in a purgatory of his own making, forever haunting the borderlands between worlds, compelled to offer his test until perhaps, in some distant future, he might finally understand forgiveness.
