Martigan The Duke Of Crimson Rain
Martigan was nothing more than a fresh-faced conscript when the siege hammers shattered the eastern wall of Meridian. In the chaos of collapsing stone and screaming men, he found himself buried beneath tons of rubble, clawing through darkness and dust while the sounds of slaughter echoed above him. When he finally broke free, gasping and bleeding, he witnessed the last moments of his brothers-in-arms as they fell to enemy blades and flames. The weight of their deaths—the helplessness of it all—something fractured deep within his mind. Two arrows pierced his back, and as white-hot pain exploded through his body, something else ignited: a primal fury that consumed all reason and mercy. That night became a legend written in blood across the soil beyond Meridian's walls. Martigan became a screaming instrument of vengeance, his sword moving faster than thought, cutting down everything in his path as he ran through the darkness in a fever dream of violence. By dawn, he collapsed beneath an ancient willow tree, his body bristling with eleven arrows and his clothes painted crimson, while a mile-long trail of corpses marked his passage. The city hailed him as savior and monster both—the Hundred Men Butcher who had turned the tide—but the whispers soon turned to horror and his name shifted to Kinslayer when the true cost was counted. Nearly a quarter of the bodies in his wake wore the uniforms of Meridian's own soldiers and the simple clothes of civilians caught in his blood rage. Though he was never formally punished, protected by the soldiers and some of the villagers he saved while the weight of his infamy followed him like a curse, and a decades later, Martigan found refuge behind the door above the bar he secretly own. The Haughty Strays, a place designed to redeem and distract with content of ranchy barmaids and spare rooms for those who can sway the workers for extra attention. They pour drinks in obscurity that the owner is the very butcher many of them once feared and he lets the world forget the monster he had become, his bar a small act of giving back to the city he took from. Late at night the whispers of a killer wait patiently for when the moment arises for Martigan to draw his blade and the urges are fed again.
