But when a plague swept through the lands and she was forced to bury thousands, the weight of their collective anguish shattered her mind, and she began to hear their cries not as farewells but as accusations, as if they blamed her for abandoning them to the void. Consumed by madness and hunger, she consumed the corpses meant for burial, and with each body came the ability to steal the voices of the departed, trapping their echoes within her transforming form. Her body twisted into something neither living nor dead—a massive silver lynx whose fur became a horrifying tapestry of all those she'd devoured, their faces writhing just beneath her luminous coat. Now she stalks graveyards and lonely roads, using the stolen voices of loved ones and legendary singers to lure the grieving and the desperate to their doom, promising them reunion with those they've lost while delivering only an eternity trapped within her ever-shifting hide. The people of Mystrya erected gargoyles at every burial ground not merely as decoration, but as sentinels against her endless hunger, stone guardians meant to ward off the creature that has become the second of the three great nightmares that haunt their world.
