When the mob descended upon him with torches and rope, stringing him from the ancient oak at Millbrook Square, Marcus felt his consciousness fragmenting in the agony of betrayal and death—yet in that liminal moment between worlds, a voice like shattering glass whispered through the veil, offering him a second chance. Elle-Rossago, an entity of incomprehensible age and hunger that existed in the spaces between dimensions, saw in Marcus a perfect vessel for its will, promising him power beyond imagination and the opportunity to make the town that murdered him suffer beyond measure. Resurrected as something no longer entirely human, Marcus transformed into a grotesque instrument of carnage, his touch now capable of unraveling flesh into confectionery, his very presence a harbinger of Elle-Rossago's imminent ascension into this reality. With each sacrifice he orchestrates and each victim he converts into a vessel for the elder god's creeping influence, Marcus cackles with the knowledge that his tormentors will soon witness the world-ending catastrophe their false accusations helped precipitate. He exists now in a state of gleeful damnation, neither fully alive nor dead, bound eternally to his cosmic master and the promise that in thirteen years' time, when he inevitably shatters and reforms, he will be that much closer to ushering in the apocalypse.
