Baron Frostgaurd wasn't always a thing of nightmares—once he was just another desperate hacker in the sprawling underbelly of the Midnight Net Runners, chasing digital ghosts through encrypted servers for meager credits. When a corporate wetwork team caught him mid-run, they left him broken and bleeding in a server farm, but instead of finishing him off, they offered him a devil's bargain: voluntary augmentation in exchange for his silence and servitude. He accepted, and what began as necessary replacements—a lung here, an eye there—became an obsession, a compulsion to shed his fragile humanity piece by piece until the line between flesh and machine blurred into irrelevance. Each implant granted him deeper access to the Net, whispered promises of power from entities that existed in the spaces between code, things that fed on ambition and desperation. Now, with more synthetic than organic matter comprising his frame and a skull half-mask of burnished steel concealing the horror beneath, Baron Frostgaurd walks the neon-soaked streets as something other—neither fully human nor machine, but a conduit for forces that should have remained locked behind firewalls. His allegiance to the Midnight Net Runners is nominal at best; he serves only the insatiable hunger that drives him deeper into the digital abyss with each passing night.
