Shadow of Yggdrasil is a twisted staff of blackened wood, carved from a fallen branch of the World Tree itself. The weapon serves as both a potent arcane focus and a formidable melee instrument, its gnarled surface radiating an aura of primal power. When wielded by one attuned to its dark nature, the staff grants advantage on spell attack rolls made with evocation and necromancy spells. The wielder's strength increases by 2 while holding the staff, and unarmed strikes made with it deal 1d8 bludgeoning damage instead of the normal amount. Once per day, the bearer may channel the staff's connection to the World Tree to cast entangle as a 2nd-level spell without expending a spell slot. The staff requires attunement by a spellcaster and crumbles to ash if ever brought into direct sunlight for more than one hour. Legends whisper that the staff hungers for knowledge of the arcane and grows more powerful in the hands of those who study forbidden magic. Its twisted form seems to shift slightly when viewed from the corner of one's eye, as if the wood remembers its connection to the cosmic tree from which it was torn.
